OS.08 Effective Community Facilitation

About community facilitation

To deliver effective community projects, we need to have the skills and ability to effectively cooperate and work with people in our beneficiary communities. Project staff need to have an in-depth understanding about the community’s expectations for program implementation and what approaches will work to ensure that the program is appropriate for the community’s needs. Many programs fall short of achieving their goals, or are proven to be unsustainable due to a lack of community ownership or support of the objectives. Community facilitation includes skills and techniques for ensuring that the community is able to participate as full as possible in all stages of program implementation, with all stockholders involved, aware and active.

IDEP’s trainings directly contribute to increasing the capacity of Indonesian NGOs, providing clear benefits to those that are serious about organizational professionalism

These skills include community organizing, participatory approaches to implementation, adult education and creating dynamic learning environments to maximize:

  • The involvement of communities in advocacy programs
  • Community in cash and in-kind contributions to programs
  • Women participation in program decision-making
  • Community motivation and ability to improve the program
  • The significant positive impacts of program to the beneficiaries
  • Sustainability assurance of the program
  • Community empowerment and independence
