OS.07 Working with Volunteers

About working with volunteers

An organization’s ability to deliver its program is directly related to how effective the organization is in ascertaining, developing and managing its human resources. Many NGOs struggle due to a lack of human resources or their human resources’ capacity. Effective use of volunteers can increase organizational ability to deliver its services and achieve its mission and goals. Many NGOs have limited experience in knowing what kind of support volunteers can provide and how to effectively recruit and work with volunteers to fulfill those needs. NGOs need to learn how to source private volunteers and how to work in cooperation with volunteer organizations, as well as how to work effectively with the volunteers once they arrive.

IDEP’s trainings directly contribute to increasing the capacity of Indonesian NGOs, providing clear benefits to those that are serious about organizational professionalism

This workshop will help local organizations understand the principles and practices of developing programs for effective volunteerism as part of their organization’s sustainability strategy, as they:

  • Understand the mutual benefits of volunteerism
  • Develop appropriate volunteer assignments
  • Understand how volunteers can support capacity building for technical skills, administrative management, public relations and fundraising
  • Understand how volunteers can broaden a local base
  • Know how to recruit and manage local and international volunteers
  • Set up performance objectives to ensure program goals
