OS.03 Building Organizational Sustainability

The changing climate of funding for local organizations

Sustainability and autonomy are fundamental to organizational survival. This includes the relevance of missions and objectives and the organization or group’s capacity, effectiveness and accountability in delivering goals. It also includes financial security and the ability to access the support needed to implement the work. All of these factors are interlinked. Most of local NGOs are depend on only one or two grant based funding sources for the majority of their budget. This poses risks for the organization, while limiting the organization’s autonomy and ability to develop strategic directions that may be different from the key donors’ mandates.
