ED.03 Learnscapes’ and DRR Education Program Design & Facilitation

Indonesia’s children are at greatest risk

Since 2004, Indonesia’s losses due to disaster events have totaled over US$ 14 billion, affected more than two million people and caused hundreds of thousands of deaths. In poor communities children tend to be most vulnerable and thus, prone to the most suffering. In 2000, at the World Education Forum, Indonesia made a commitment to “achieve basic education for all”. As part of this reform, the authority to design curricula was decentralized to the provincial level and urgently needed SDE & DRR education is an excellent match for this local curricula.

IDEP trainings directly contribute to Indonesia’s efforts under HFA, providing clear benefits to those that are serious about  increasing safety and sustainability in their area

Indonesia’s commitment to DRR education

In January 2005, together with 168 countries, Indonesia made a full commitment to implement the International blueprint for disaster risk reduction for 2005-2015 called the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA).

The agreed priorities for action for 2005-2015 are:

  • Ensure a strong institutional basis for risk reduction

  • Build a culture of safety and resilience through education
  • Reduce the underlying risk factors
